Built for Safety. Every detail of our Rubex electric powered stairlift is designed with your safety in mind. We build safety sensors into the footrest, include a locking mechanism in the seat belt, and give the motor instant reversing capability. With automatic limits at each end of the track, standard mechanical and electrical slack cable safety devices, and a fail-safe mechanism that prevents operation until the seat is in the correct position, this stairlift is one of the safest on the market today. It is ETL listed and meets ASME A17.1 and A18 safety standards for public and private use. We also include call stations for both top and bottom landings, which can be mounted to the wall or to the floor. Read more about AmeriGlide stair lift safety standards.
Easy "Homeowner" Installation. Unbelievably, the AmeriGlide Rubex electric powered stair lift simply plugs into the nearest outlet. No special wiring is needed! You can install it on either the right-hand or left-hand side of your staircase; you can even switch it from side to side without any additional parts.
Sleek Design Compliments Any Decor. The AmeriGlide Rubex electric powered stair lift is available in an attractive almond finish with your choice of vinyl seat color. When not in use, you can easily fold up the padded seat and flip up the footrest and your stair lift only takes up 14 inches of space. It's so compact, other people in your household always have full use of the stairs.

A Little About Myself Retired mechanic |
Pros AAA+ |
Cons |
Service & Delivery AAA+ |
I purchased my unit a year ago and wrote a very positive report, and am writing again to mention that I too had some problems with my unit similar to a gentleman from Aitkin Minnesota. I called the technical service line (different from the customer service number) and received quick attention to the problems, good advice, and a shipment of several new parts at no charge within 10 days of my call.
Because I am a retired professional mechanic I place equal value of factory support as the quality of my original purchase. If you have a problem of some sort don't hesitate to call but you should know that like any other mechanical device the stair lift does require conscientious maintenance.
After owning the unit for a year and at least 1000 trips up and down I am very pleased with the unit, and my decision not to purchase a unit run by a battery in case of an electrical outage. The added electronics, cost and weight for such a rare need would have been a poor investment for me. |

A Little About Myself Homeowner for 30+years; second stairlift purchased |
Pros A product for homes with steps wider than 50inches. |
Cons Well the product is a good product the sales person did a poor job is assessing which product I would need. It should be standard practice for the sales person to advise customers if their stairway is standard size than get a slimmer model with vertical track, rather than railroad track. |
Service & Delivery Actually the delivery was put right outside the garage door. Delivered as close as he could get it to the house. |
The bottom line is, it does matter it this unit is installed on the hand rail side of the steps, and expecially when the steps are standard size width of "36 inches". So just so all know the picture of the Rubex above shows a railroad track, if you have standard size steps you want that track on its side.
Discussion:
I purchased the Rubex AC/DC model without extra battery for my home for when mom visits and purchased the Bruno model for my mom's house. The Bruno model is slimmer, the track fits on its side and takes up less space in the stairwell, whereas the track for the Rubex is like a railroad track, takes up half the size of the narrow steps and you can barely walk up the steps. Additionally you cannot install the Rubex model on the side of the steps where the bannister is because the back seat will rub the banister and incrementally bleed the seat cover in the back off.
The standard width size of most home steps is 36 inches wide, same as most doors, if a wheelchair the standard width is 44 inches. Therefore when you consider the handrail that protrudes from the wall outwardly at least two - three inches, there is no way you can install the Rubex (and maybe other models) as discussed in the Installation Guide on page 7, or as demonstrated in the You Tube videos. These two information presentations need to be succinct and they are not when giving advice on how much to measure from the wall to the track unit. Moreover if you look at the installation demonstration in the You Tube video it is for steps that appear to be wider than 36 inches. |
